Cukras 1967 Car Model race winning P3 body project

In 1967 for the Car Model magazine race John Cukras used a Jack Gracia (Dynamic) made Ferrari P3 coupe body.

John said that back in those days when he was racing he would go to various manufactures to try and get their latest and best parts for his race cars.

Before the 1967 “Car Model” race John went to see if Dynamic had anything new. What he got from Jack Garcia was a new and unknown Ferrari P3 body. Photo’s of John’s car can be seen in the August of 1967 Car Model Magazine issue.

John went on to win the race. Dynamic never released the P3 body as part of there body line. I got one of the P3 bodies but don’t remember how. Attempts at re-producing the entire car has been done by some Pro era enthusiast without having an actual body of that type.

Some time ago this year I was asked by Master builder (and racer) Dennis Samson about the possibility of getting a reproduction body of the P3.

I began to consider making the mold. The body of the P3 I have has been cut in so many places for louvers and openings I knew right away it would be a not more work than I care to do but it is a special body.

Here is a photo from the 1967 Car Model article that has John’s car pictured and my body in grayscale pasted along side it

As you can see it is the same type body.

Here is the start of the mold along side the body.

It won’t be long to complete.
